So today, as I was walking between the conference and my hotel, I decided to detour through this beautiful park that is nearby. And low and behold, I look at the park map to see where to go, and I see a VELODROME on the map! So of course I go to check it out! It was cool, and there just happened to be some people training on it, so I stopped to watch for a bit. It was pretty fun, seeing as how I've never even BEEN to a track let alone ride on one. It was fun, but it made me miss my bike even more...

there is a place just outside of Paris - every Sunday riders ride around a circuit in all ages but mostly men, I wish I remembered the name of the place but it's just past the arch of triumph...
you can jump on a group depending on what speed you want to go at - there's like a bunch of groups and people jumping from one group to the other...it is really fun! you get to draft in different groups riders don't care and they like it when you jump into the group to get a good draft...european style
it's always kind of neat to find bike things in places you don't live.
like it's a secret connection you have with the place or something.

Chatterbo-France has been awesome. Too bad I've been stuck in a conference the past few days...but Paris was divine. Next time I'm bringing the bike!
There was one guy at this velodrome that was motor pacing with a motorcycle (see photo). He was SO fast...made everyone else look like they were sitting still!
Paris is darn cool. You can rent commuter bikes there as well, or at least you could when I was there about 6 years ago. I don't recall where, but it must have been a bike shop or something. It was a great way to get around the city. Even rode out to a velodrome on the southern end of the city.

When we were in Morzine a couple years ago, I was impressed to see a big monument at the base of the big climb with the fastest times of famous riders (Hinault was one, I think). Just think if we had a monument at the base of Gibraltar with Lance's and Andy Hampsten's times in the low 30-minute range!
